Start Date: November 1, 2025
We are inviting applications for a fully funded Ph.D. position in Ground Motion Simulation, Seismic Hazard Analysis, and Applied Statistical Learning at the University of Trento, Italy.
π§ This project focuses on developing a regional stochastic ground motion simulation framework that captures site- and path-dependent effects for enhanced seismic hazard assessments. The work lies at the intersection of Earthquake Engineering, Uncertainty Quantification, Machine Learning, and Scientific Computing.
π¬ Supervision & Collaborations
The Ph.D. will be supervised by Prof. Marco Broccardo, in collaboration with:
β Prof. Ziqi Wang (UC Berkeley)
β Prof. Mayssa Dabaghi (American University of Beirut)
A research visit to one of the partner institutions is expected during the program.
π Candidate Requirements
β A Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree must be completed before the start date
β Background in one or more of the following:
β’ Civil/Earthquake Engineering
β’ Applied Mathematics / Statistics
β’ Computational Science
β Experience with Python, MATLAB, or Julia and a strong interest in ML techniques are highly desirable.
