We are inviting applications for a fully funded Ph.D. position in Ground Motion Simulation, Seismic Hazard Analysis, and Applied Statistical Learning at the University of Trento, Italy.

🧠 This project focuses on developing a regional stochastic ground motion simulation framework that captures site- and path-dependent effects for enhanced seismic hazard assessments. The work lies at the intersection of Earthquake Engineering, Uncertainty Quantification, Machine Learning, and Scientific Computing.

πŸ”¬ Supervision & Collaborations
The Ph.D. will be supervised by Prof. Marco Broccardo, in collaboration with:
– Prof. Ziqi Wang (UC Berkeley)
– Prof. Mayssa Dabaghi (American University of Beirut)
A research visit to one of the partner institutions is expected during the program.

πŸŽ“ Candidate Requirements
– A Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree must be completed before the start date
– Background in one or more of the following:
β€’ Civil/Earthquake Engineering
β€’ Applied Mathematics / Statistics
β€’ Computational Science
– Experience with Python, MATLAB, or Julia and a strong interest in ML techniques are highly desirable.
