The SoftCPS Laboratory (https://www.isep.ipp.pt/softcps/), a research unit of the School of Engineering of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (ISEP) and part of the INESC TEC HumanISE Center, is seeking expressions of interest from highly motivated and talented individuals interested in pursuing a PhD in the broad domain of Embedded and Cyber-Physical Systems.
About Us
At the SoftCPS Laboratory, we focus on the intersection of embedded systems, advanced software technologies, and cyber-physical systems (CPS). We lead research and innovation in designing intelligent, connected, and dependable systems that enable modern smart applications ranging from Edge AI, fog/edge/cloud computing, reliable software and autonomous systems, to smart energy, smart infrastructure and industrial automation.
With over 25 years of experience, our team has led and contributed to national and international R&D projects, published more than 200 scientific papers, and actively participated in key conferences in the field. We work across academic, industry, and societal challenges, and provide an environment that values collaboration, innovation, and impact.
Who We Are Looking For
We invite expressions of interest from PhD candidates who:
- Completed or are about to complete a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Informatics Engineering, or related fields;
- Are passionate about embedded systems, cyber-physical systems, real-time systems, autonomous systems, middleware, parallel computing, operating systems, Edge AI or AI in cyber-physical systems;
- Demonstrate strong analytical, programming, and problem-solving skills;
- Are fluent in English and motivated to contribute to both fundamental and applied research.
